Seven Learnings: Diggers & Dealers 2026

Seven Word Summary: Learnings from where the mining industry meets

With members of the Seven Patterns team on the ground at Diggers & Dealers, where the mining industry meets, this presented an opportunity to listen to the conversations behind the headlines, connecting with clients, partners, industry leaders and investors, and collaborating with MiningNews.net to capture the stories that matter.

From discoveries and drilling results to project development, company growth and the people behind the stories, there was plenty to take away from the week.

Here are seven of our learnings from the ground in Kalgoorlie:

1. Discovery is only the beginning

Stories such as Gorilla Gold’s Vince discovery, Nexus Minerals’ Payns prospect and Australian Gold & Copper’s Achilles project go beyond simply reporting a new result. The focus is on what the discovery could unlock next – further drilling, resource growth, mine development or a new catalyst.

Being in Kalgoorlie, it is impossible to ignore the scale of what a discovery can ultimately become. The Super Pit is a powerful reminder that behind every resource story is the potential for something much bigger – and that mining stories are often measured in decades, not headlines.

The learning: don’t just tell people what happened – tell them where the story could go.

2. Drilling results need a bigger narrative

High-grade intersections make headlines, but the more compelling stories put results into context – whether they extend a known resource, open a new target or change the potential scale of a project.

That approach is evident in MiningNews.net’s coverage of LinQ Minerals’ Monza and Nexus Minerals’ exploration programs, where individual results become part of a much bigger exploration story.

The learning: numbers attract attention; context creates interest.

3. Development stories are about milestones – and momentum

Rox Resources’ Youanmi story is a good example. The narrative is not simply that construction is underway. It is the combination of construction, ongoing drilling and the potential to extend the mine plan that creates a story about where the project is heading.

We also saw that sense of momentum in the growth stories around companies such as Cazaly Resources and Mount Hope Mining – reminders that the story of a resources company can evolve quickly as projects advance, opportunities emerge and confidence builds.

The learning: every milestone is an opportunity to spark momentum and explain the bigger journey.

4. The leader remains an important storyteller

You will notice across our collaborative content with MiningNews.net, executives are front and centre – explaining drilling programs, project opportunities, strategy, and the next milestones.

Our conversations on the ground reinforced the value of hearing directly from leaders with experience, perspective, and a strong connection to the places where they operate. Daniel Tucker AM of Carey Group represents all three – drawing on decades of experience in the resources sector while maintaining a deep connection to Country and the communities in which Carey Group works.

Those conversations add a dimension that a company announcement alone cannot capture. They bring context, experience, and a human perspective to the story – helping audiences understand not just what a company is doing, but why it matters.

The learning: sometimes the most valuable content is not the announcement – it is the conversation around it.

5. The next catalyst makes the story

Whether it is a drilling campaign at Golden Crown, a resource estimate at Clement or further work at Excelsior Springs, the strongest stories consistently frame what happens next.

It is also what makes company growth stories compelling. The evolution of Cazaly Resources and Mount Hope Mining demonstrates how audiences can follow a company as new opportunities, projects and milestones build on one another.

And sometimes the catalyst is more tangible. The gold bar presented by the Perth Mint was a memorable reminder that, at its heart, this is an industry built around a very real and valuable commodity.

The learning: audiences want to know what to watch, not just what has happened.

6. The strongest stories connect the dots

A single result rarely tells the whole story. The more interesting narratives connect exploration, resources, infrastructure, permitting, construction, production and growth.

That is particularly evident in the evolving Youanmi story, where development progress and exploration success combine to create a much bigger growth narrative.

It is also why the stories of emerging companies can be so powerful: the individual pieces – a new project, a drilling program, a resource update or a strategic move – become more meaningful when audiences can see how they fit together.

The learning: effective storytelling connects the dots between components that are not immediately obvious, yet significant.

7. Tell the stories behind the stories

This is where being on the ground matters.

Diggers & Dealers brings together the people behind Australia’s resources sector – and creates conversations that do not necessarily happen through a press release or presentation.

The growth stories, the conversations with leaders, the drilling results, the project milestones – and even a gold bar changing hands – all contribute to a bigger picture of an industry constantly evolving.

For Seven Patterns, working alongside MiningNews.net provides an opportunity to listen to those conversations, connect with industry leaders and turn insight into impactful stories that build credibility, strengthen brands, support growth and create influence.

“The best story might not be the one announced on stage.

It might be the conversation that happens afterwards.”
